Dental education pertains to learning basic medicine and the major aspects of dentistry. The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree course offers on the job training and experience in diagnosing and treating dental ailments. ACDS offers admission in BDS to 40 students every year on the basis of merit obtained in the NEET (UG) examination. Students are taught all the major medical subjects by an experienced team of doctors during the first three years of their course. The multi- speciality dental hospital of ACDS is where students are trained in basic dental procedures such as fillings, root canals, scaling, delivering crowns and dentures, and extraction of teeth during their third and fourth year. The BDS degree is awarded on the successful completion of the four-year academic education and the in- house one year mandatory internship program.
By the end of the course, ACDS alumni are well equipped to practice dentistry in the corporate, government and private sector. Quite a few of them have taken their knowledge and skill set to make successful dental careers in other countries such as America, Australia and the UK. A significant number of our students choose to enhance their skills by specializing in one of the nine main streams of dentistry. This involves taking up the Masters in Dental Surgery (MDS) degree. Many students also opt for branching out to other streams, such as careers in public health, hospital administration or pharmaceuticals.
ACDS offers Master in Dental Surgery (MDS) degree in six main dental specialities, which are- Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontics, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, and Pediatric Dentistry. The residents are trained in their respective fields and emerge as expert specialists.
